When Stanley Keene first came out of the United States Air Force in 1964, he took some personal leave and then went to work at Joske’s of Texas. There he was hired to repair and maintain the registers. Stanley decided to go out looking for an opportunity to purchase an already established cash register company. The company was just in a small little building at 3321 Fredericksburg Road that was hardly ever open because the owner was always out on fishing trips. Stanley would check on the business everyday until the owner finally decided to sell it to him. The sale was made final on November 15, 1977. I guess somewhere out there is a happy fisherman.
After Stanley made the needed adjustments and improvements, he was finally ready to reopen the doors of the new Century Cash Register. The business remained operational there at 3321 Fredericksburg Road for three years, but the business was growing and could no longer work out of the little building that it had started in. He made the decision to purchase the land at 3924 Fredericksburg Road and convert the ice house that was once know as Ginni’s Ice Berg in the early 1970’s. With a good deal of remodeling, they were able to turn rooms that were once ice boxes into the paper and supplies rooms; rooms that were once used as pool rooms were turned into nice offices for the two owners. They also created a fully functional service room and a show room. Century Cash Register finally met its new home in 1980.
Century Cash Register is locally owned and has been in operation for 30 years, serving the local community and surrounding area businesses.
